What's The Next Step?

If you find yourself asking this question, even once

, in the past week, Doctor, then there is something wrong, broken, or absent in your practice's game plan. If you have implemented the strategies at Perfect Practice Web in the past three years, your practice and, indeed, your personal life should be a fortress. The events of this year would have little effect on you, except to listen to those who reach out and want to learn the secret of why YOU are so happy.

Your practice is strong. Your investments are more valuable than ever and you continue to lead your team in eager anticipation of a brighter future.

If this is not happening, then a really critical appraisal of EVERY system in your practice and, probably, even your personal life is long overdue. This analysis should be done every six months anyways, at a minimum.

Here are some important issues to consider right now.

Have you made your patient care plans simple and understandable? Or are they confused? And when payment time comes, do they usually say: "Let me think about it." "I can't really pay for THAT at the moment." And then you see them go off in a more expensive car than yours.

Are you asking your patients what they want and going out of your way to provide it?

How about your team? Do you reassure, or do you come across as frightened? Do you complain about how much money you don't have or you lost? Or are you supportive and doing everything you can to ensure that they will have a bright future? Do they absolutely know where they stand on everything about your practice? Or are they afraid because you keep receiving calls from your broker while in the middle of treating patients?

Do you exude confidence or do you make them feel scared? Do they talk about you? What do they say? Are you working every week to make their jobs easier or more difficult and confusing?

Let's talk money. Are you putting money on your continued growth and education, or did you cut back on that too? Will you be joining events where you can learn from some of the brightest people you'll find in the field of healthcare, EMR, marketing, interdisciplinary care, and law? Are you really serious about continuous self-improvement? Have you invested in books, CDS, podcasts, teleseminars, and webinars? Have you lost a lot of money trying to do multidisciplinary, or do you genuinely care for your local doctors, nurses, and their children?

What about marketing? Still throwing money on the yellow pages and newspaper ads, or does YOUR name come up when they Google their health concerns. Is it YOU who is on the local radio health shows, or is the competition? Is your Web site up to par? Is it able to capture new patients online, on the same day? Are you doing target marketing or throwing money into the wind?

While I was writing "Living and Practicing by Design," I had no idea how quickly it would emerge as a bulletproof strategy against the ever-changing economic and practice landscape.

And, Doctor, based upon the events of the past few weeks, and with all due respect, you need to create all of this in your own life. It will happen, but ONLY if you LEARN THESE RIGHT NOW.
