A Beginner's Guide To Gardening Using Garden Pots

Container gardening sure sounds easy - just use a couple of garden pots

, add some plants, then water and plenty of sunshine and your good to go. And, actually, it's pretty much that easy - almost. Container gardening is also really versatile and pretty inexpensive when compared to traditional gardening. And, you won't need a large area or years of experience to develop a successful garden using pots. Here are a few more tips to help you out with this terrific hobby.

First, I think its best to start off small and work your way up. I'm not just talking about the plants, I'm talking about the pots. You may want to move your plants around (which is a big advantage of container gardening) and if you have a big pot that is already heavy, add a bunch of soil and water, and you'll have quite a hard time relocating it anywhere.

Always check the bottom of the pots to see if they have any holes for water drainage. There should be a least one fairly good sized hole and most pots that are manufactured today will have one. When watering your plants, stop once you notice any water coming out from around the bottom of the pot. Also, be aware that uncoated clay pots will soak up water right out of the soil so additional watering may be required.

You don't want to plant too many plants into one pot as they can get overcrowded. Its very important to group your plants in the same pot according to their soil, water and sun requirements. This will give your plants a better chance of growing successfully.

You should always be open to experimentation. Sure, you may not get the desired results you were looking for right off the bat, but don't be afraid to lose a few plants in the process. Container gardening not only makes a dull space more interesting and beautiful, but it also is a lot of fun and very rewarding.
