Most people book their ALICANTE VILLAS, jump on a plane without giving a thought

to the area they are travelling to except for the beaches and sunshine. This year, do something different and discover what a magnificent place you will spending the next two weeks in. it won't take you long to uncover the wealth of history this place has to offer. For example, did you know this fortress town once controlled the entrance route of the Mediterranean coastline or that there is over six hundred species of plants that make the countryside so beautiful?

Besides spending all your time on the beach you could go mountain climbing or biking on the nearby Puig Campana. If you climb to the top be prepared to travel through clouds as the summit is normally encircled with them and next door is an even higher one with snow on the top year round called Aitana. When you add Serrella and Bernia to these it creates a breathless massif only separated by little valleys. This beautiful view is only enhanced by terraces growing vegetable, orchards of lemon and orange trees irrigated with water from the valleys. If you happen to find your way to this area don't pass up the opportunity to visit the villages of Polop, La Nucia and Callosa de Ensarria, all of which exude a certain Spanish charm.

If you're planning a walking expedition be sure and check with the local guide or pick up a book as the trails are marked differently for degrees of difficulty. There are a multitude of trails, roads and routes starting out in the villages just pick the one that suits your ability.

If you have a hire car then the world opens up to you on days out. For some prehistoric history venture over to the village of Petracos with its cave paintings located in Castell de Castells. There are so many villages in the mountains that you won't have time to explore all of them. With the old Spanish charm and lifestyle you will find it hard to get past the first one.

As you find out more about this interesting area you will discover there is a plethora of things for the children to do that is both fun and educational. For example, there is Sea World in Mundomar and Aqualand but this is only the tip of the iceberg. You could spend your entire holiday in the valleys and mountains of Alicante without seeing a beach. The one place that is a must visit on your sojourn through the mountains is the valley of Guadalest including the village with the same name and its castle perched on top of the mountain.

When staying in your ALICANTE VILLAS, the one thing a lot of people do not think about is the local cuisine. It amazes me the number of people that frequent restaurants serving English food just like back home when there is a world of new flavours out there waiting to be sampled. If nothing else stop in a tapas bar and sample a variety of dishes without having to order a main course, in doing so find the ones you like. The Mediterranean diet is said to be the healthiest in the world, so why not try it?
