All About Play Equipment For Children

When looking for play equipment one has to keep in mind the age of the children this equipment will be for

. There are different types of play equipment for different ages. If looking for something for the very young, consideration needs to be given to the fact that the younger a child is, the less stable they are on their feet. There is always a problem with this type of child tripping over or treading on things which are unstable or actually falling over things.

Play equipment for this age has a necessity to have absolutely no sharp corners or edges, no small objects that a child could pick up and put in their mouth and consequently choke on, and things that are not over heavy which might fall on a child and hurt them. They should not be of any height where the exploring little one will climb and subsequently fall off and hurt themselves.

Children who are well on their feet, and are of the kindergarten or later pre school age, are much more stable when running around but are still inclined to not look where they are going. With this in mind play equipment is better if it also does not have the sharp edges and corners.

Heavy objects are also not a good option as this age are inclined to build things on top of each other. This will often come down with a crash and children in a close vicinity may get hurt if there are any heavy objects which fall on them.

This age often likes to climb and having equipment that is not too high like slippery dips, slides and climbing frames will give them lots of fun. For both these younger ages it is good to have a variety of colours which the play equipment can be made from, as younger children often like colours.

As we get into the mid primary age years some of the equipment can be a bit more challenging. Swings can go higher, the slippery dip or slide can also be longer and higher, and a climbing frame can have other obstacles for the children to climb over or go through. There are many things available for this age which can help with physical fitness and improving coordination, ability and movement skills.

The later primary years are usually very capable with their abilities to tackle or handle many types of play equipment, but they still like to be able to sit on a swing and send it as high as it will go, or go down a slippery dip or slide backwards just to see if they can do it. Keeping this in mind there is still a necessity to make sure the equipment they will be using has a safe structure and is strong enough to handle a heavier weight.

The types of equipment for this age can be far more advanced than what is available for the younger ages, or it can be just as simple. Whatever it is the main need is for the child playing on it to have fun and be safe.
