Brand New Data Centre To Be Hosted In An Iconic London Building

19 inch racks might well be installed as part of plans for a new data centre to be

hosted at an iconic structure right in the heart of central London.

Volta, which provides data centres to the finance, media and content sectors, is set to open its first site in Londons Great Sutton Street at the building where Reuters used to be based.

The brand new, low latency data centre will be primarily used to serve companies in the City and around London's Silicon Roundabout.

Volta will take over the site in June 2012 and it is scheduled to be fully operational by January 2013.

Furthermore, the brand new data centre will play host to the most robust power supply available in central London, which will be connected to two 33kv substations.

The premises also has some of the worlds leading telecommunications providers such as BT, AboveNet, Colt, C&W, Verizon, which will give customers some of the most up-to-date connectivity services in the world.

Matthew Dent, the chief executive at Volta, stated: "The opportunity to invest in continuing the legacy of the Great Sutton Street data centre building, which has provided services since 1986, is an exciting prospect.

"We will completely refurbish the building, installing the latest and most energy efficient equipment. This unique opportunity will provide a much needed service to the financial, media and content industries of Central London."

Julian King, Volta director for business, stated that the premises will consist of four 10,000 square foot floors of white space and will be able make use of 9MW of power.

The power and plant equipment will be located on the ground floor with the data halls based above.

"Great Sutton Street is a unique proposition, combining the most resilient power supply available to a central London data centre with access to world leading carriers," Mr King stated.

"The location of Great Sutton Street and range of carriers makes us a compelling choice for financial and media companies requiring data centre space, offering proximity hosting and ultra-low latency in central London."
