Bug Out Vehicle For Emergency Getaway Plan
Many families are preparing a bug out vehicle in the event of emergency evacuation.
According to discussions on survival forums and blogs, one of the most common types of vehicles folks are using to 'bug out' are sports utility jeeps or 4 wheel drive trucks. Preferably with bigger tires or a lift kit as they are better for off road terrain.
And since these vehicles tend to be gas hogs, you will want to be able to carry extra fuel with you.
These bug out vehicles are almost guaranteed to take you places where others can't get to with normal cars and with some baggage racks on top you will be able to carry a TON of stuff with you as well.
The other important thing is to have a portable solar system or some form of alternative energy in your vehicle.
Side note:Here is some normal bug out stuff you will want to have in your car at all times if you live in an area where hurricanes, tornados and earthquakes are frequent or anticipated.
Should you get caught in an emergency situation and you are able to take off in your bug out vehicle, then all you need to do is grab your bug out gear from your car, throw it in your BOV and be ready to go.
*Bug out Bags ... it's fairly easy to make your own.
*Basic Survival Tools .. you may be trapped inside your car for several hours so make sure you have some basic tools along in case you get a chance to help someone that is less prepared than you were.
*Basic First Aid... again, these kits are pretty common and easy to get ahold of or you can make your own.
I think a PACK HORSE is your very BEST option as a bug out vehicle!
If you are single or even if there are several in your party, using a pack horse to pack emergency supplies to a remote area is the best way.
*Mules or horses can go where a truck will never dream of going. Especially if you need to cross rocky steep terrain, cross a river or sneak through the woods.
*Horses do not use fuel ... not gasoline anyways! They DO have to eat so carrying a bag of grain is a must if you use a pack horse.
* Horses have been used for transportation for YEARS. Long before cars were ever invented and they are able to carry a lot of weight without it being a burden on them.
So absolutely horses are the BEST option as a bug out vehicle. They just may not be EVERYONE'S best option. :)
However.. back to the emergency vehicles.. and this is important. Please leave your bugout gear INSIDE your car or truck.
One very important thing yet. Please do not make a habit of using items from your pack thinking you will replace them soon. Nothing will be more frustrating to have an emergency arise and half your supplies gone from your bug out bags.
