Can Liposuction Fix It All And All At Once?

In a quick-fix society, we tend to want immediate solutions to problems

. People sometimes apply this way of thinking to their bodies. But can liposuction really remove all the unwanted fat from a person's body?

The answer to that question is a little complex, and it partly depends on how much fat is on the person's body. In most cases, it would be unsafe or even impossible to remove all the excess fat from a person's body all at once. Liposuction is done only to small localized areas of the body, removing relatively small amounts of fat cells.

Although people generally look better (thinner with less obvious fat in a certain area) the results of liposuction are not as dramatic as most people would imagine. The entire body is not suddenly perfectly sculpted from one surgical operation.

It's not quite magic, but it can be very effective. Once removed, the fat cells will not come back, and it can be possible in some cases to sculpt various areas of the body in more than one separate operation. Of course, some time would have to be set aside for reasonable healing between operations.

In any case, the kinds of dramatic changes people expected from liposuction can take a long time or may not even be possible. It is not the best idea to depend too much on a surgical procedure. If not done properly, the surgeon may actually remove too much fat.

It may seem strange that too much fat can be removed from the human body. Health care providers are always talking about the importance of maintaining a healthy weight. Who would have thought that losing too much weight could be unhealthy?

The trick to losing fat healthily is to only lose a little at a time. It may be surprising to most people that this is how liposuction works. Surgeons are careful to remove only small, safe amounts of body fat. This protects the patients from the problems that come from losing too much weight too fast.

But people are not always concerned with safety when it comes to looking good. Many people are willing to go to unhealthy extremes to lose weight because of the intense social pressure to have a certain body image.

The good news is that liposuction is not one of those harmful extremes. Ethical physicians will not even attempt the surgery on people who are not good candidates. This is one way that fat loss can be safe.
