. Many high profile celebrities fell victim to a slew of home invasions and consequent robberies over the last two years. Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Orlando Bloom, Audrina Patridge, Rachel Bilson and other A-listers had their homes broken into by the same group of people who became known as the "Bling Ring Burglars". Millions of dollars worth of jewelry and items were stolen from the celebrities homes. The group of thieves has been caught and they are now undergoing trial, a group of four people are expected to be charged with the robberies.

What makes this case all the more curious, however, is that with all the money these celebrities have, many of them could have avoided the robbery by installing and using a home security system. The Bling Ring Burglars entered most of the homes through unlocked windows and doors, getting by security cameras. The group had staked out the homes for days and maybe even weeks before, getting to know the patterns of their victims. They knew exactly when the homes would be left unguarded and open. Most thieves take these kinds of precautions and the Bling Ring Burglaries were no exception and should be taken as a warning for those who have far less of value in their homes.

The response of the celebrities was that, more than the material goods that went missing, it was the feeling of being invaded that was the most difficult to deal with. This is often the case with any kind of burglary. The idea of insecurity is the most difficult to cope with. There is certainly a feeling of personal invasion that is left even after the culprits are behind bars. Rachel Bilson and Lindsay Lohan both talked about feeling insecure in their homes to the extent that they felt like they couldn't sleep there anymore. All of the celebrities took on a more guarded stance in terms of home security by investing in and using home alarm systems, from their LA homes to their New York penthouses.

The biggest mistake that people who already own home alarm systems make is not activating it every time they leave the house. This was what went wrong for the celebrities of the Hollywood hills and it is what goes on for the majority of "successful" home robberies. Whether you have a lock and key system or a number locked key pad to activate your alarm, it only takes a few seconds out of your departure time to provide a kind of security that could save you a lot of money and time. More than that, it will help you to maintain a real sense of security in your home which is priceless for a good night's sleep.

Most burglars aren't the type who will smash windows or do anything that might wake the inhabitants of the home or alert the neighbors during the day. The majority of "failed" burglaries are a result of some kind of alarm system or a watch dog who can alert everyone in the home as well as neighbors to an intrusion. To this extent, a home alarm system isn't just a precaution, it's also prevention.
