Celebrity Beauty: Autumn Inspiration for Hot New Hair Shades
Celebrity Beauty: Autumn Inspiration for Hot New Hair Shades
Gentlemen prefer blondes but this autumn the stars prefer brunette! Celebrity hair stylists are confirming what we've noticed already that though blonde is always popular, brunette is the hit colour for the season. Celebrity gossip blogs have caught Hilary Duff, Kim Kardashian, Alexis Bledel and Demi Lovato stepping out with new shades of caramel, cinnamon, dark honey and chestnut with lots of subtle multi-tones that look healthy and rich.
Cinnamon
Look to Alexis Bledel, star of cult classic show The Gilmore Girls, for a stunning example of a dark auburn. If you've got fair, milky skin like Alexis, the vibrant red undertones of cinnamon will bring your porcelain skin to life. This shade looks particularly great with blue or green eyes, creating a complementing contrast to make your eyes stand out.
Dark Honey
Hilary Duff is our celebrity poster girl for dark honey colour after she was seen stepping out of a Beverley Hills hair salon with this flattering new look. The former Lizzie Maguire actress has been out of the celebrity news since her marriage to Canadian hockey player Mike Comrie, but with such a beautiful shade we're thinking she'll be back. Always the classic Californian blonde, Hilary has gone for a warmer, multi-tonal buttery colour. The deep golden shade is great for all skin tones, warming up the complexion and giving even the fairest skin a touch of bronze. This shade is also a gentle way of going brunette if you've been a confirmed blonde until now.
Chestnut
Our favourite chestnut is Kim Kardashian. The curvy star model and reality TV star has always been a glossy brunette but her dark, almost-black shade could sometimes be a bit severe. Her new hair colour is two shades lighter, a warmer, more chocolaty shade. It's a softer choice for Kim but is still in the same colour family of her olive skin. She's also added discreet and subtle highlights that add depth that va-va-voom volume.
Caramel
Like Kim, Disney starlet Demi Lovato was a dark, almost-black brunette. For Autumn she's lightened up with a multi-tonal caramel that marries Kim's chestnut and Hilary's honey shades. The caramel highlights on a deep-brown base is very flattering on her olive skin tone and makes her eyes pop.
Tips to get that celebrity brunette shade
If you're a confirmed blonde and are thinking of making the transition from light to dark, go gradual. You could ask your colourist to add some darker shades to your usual head of highlights. If you like the result, you could go for deeper tones and go three to four shades darker.
It's also important to go for a multi-dimensional, tonal shading. A solid shade can look harsh particularly if you have a lighter skin tone. Ask your colourist to add tone-on-tone highlights. This also will make your hair look voluminous, natural and healthy.
Don't forget to maintain your locks too! Brunette dye tends to fade to reddish undertones over time. Pick up a shampoo with colour pigments to keep your shade glossy and chocolaty after you leave the salon.
