Be dominant in your organization. Be dominant does not mean dominating. The basic difference between these two terms has to be understood properly, other wise one would become dominating than being dominant.

Be dominant is strength and dominating is weakness. Dominant means showing ones own strength and capability in the best way possible and dominating means trying to control people and make them to do and accept what the person says is right. Dominating people create fear psychosis in the organization. These people more often throw their authority and power upon others. Weak individuals are the favorite of these people. These people are actually the corporate cowardice'. The dominating leaders demand results while dominant leaders offer and command people to produce results.

Every employee should be dominant in an organization. But unfortunately, dominant employees are seldom liked if they have a dominating boss. Dominant does not means disobedience, insubordination or disrespecting others.

Dominance equation is very common in nature. In a given environment, only a few plants become a giant tree while other grows to medium level and then stop growing. Never a banyan or any other tall trees dominate other vegetation. If at all, there is competition, only during early phase and later the dominant is well accepted by others as it give shade and protection to them. In nature, the dominant offers support and protection to the rest of the plants. The dominant animal elephant always give indirect protection to large herd of ungulates such as deer, antelopes and monkeys etc. When a dominant animal is in the vicinity, the predators seldom attack the smaller mammals.

Organization should know how to differentiate the above two patterns of behaviour among its employees. Dominant people are perceived to be a problem by the bosses but the dominating people are the real problem to the entire organization.

The most interesting aspect is that different functions in the organization try to dominate with each other. The domination will be more during the hour of crisis as some function has to be made scapegoat. If these functions become dominant in discharging their responsibilities, the organization will prosper to a great extent.

Entrepreneur should understand whether the employees follow the style of dominant or dominating. People at the senior level exhibiting the second style are disastrous to the organization.
