Did My Network Marketing Company Lie To Me?

I'm going to start at the end and ask the question. Did my network marketing company lie to me? When I joined my network marketing company in 2007 I was already involved in a real estate business that was struggling. Needless to say, I was tired of the backstabbing, lying, and shaky dealings that often occur in that industry and I wanted to get involved in a real 'people helping people' business. This is why I decided to join my network marketing opportunity.Let me just stop right here and say that I wasn't ignorant. I knew that building a network marketing business was not going to be easy. I knew it would take an investment of time, effort, knowledge, and skill to build my business the right way. What I didn't know at the time was marketing. I took my uplines advise on how to build my business as gospel. Why shouldn't I have. The guy who recruited me was a multi-millionaire in this network marketing business as well as a previous business venture. He instilled confidence in me and he was a very personable and likable person. I listened to everything he was telling me.

I became one of the 3% in my company that actually followed the 'easy duplicatable system religiously. I created my warm market list and contacted everyone on my list. I used 3-way calls with my upline. I cold-called leads. I handed out magazines, cd's, dvd's, audio's, business cards everyday to strangers. You name it I probably did it. I was sold on my company and opportunity.

After a year and a half of working my butt off I was in debt and only had $1,700 to show for my efforts. The sad part was that the money I earned was not even profit yet. The $1,700 was all subject to chargebacks. A chargeback happens when you sell a small priced product and instead of your company sending you a small $2 or $3.00 check they advance you an entire year of commission banking on the fact that your new customer will continue to pay their membership fees every month. This is good in theory because you get a large commission up front but if your customer does not pay their monthly membership that first year then they will charge back to you the commission that was already paid out. In essence it's like going into debt every time you make a sale.

It wasn't until I was broke and depressed that while I was browsing the Internet I stumbled upon a 26 year punk kid who told me that he just recruited 95 people into his downline in 3 days without picking up the phone. I said to my self what a bunch of crap. However, there was that dream and excitement and no quit attitude that kept drawing me back to learn more. You see, I thought I had exhausted all of my marketing. I was dead wrong. This kid was teaching to the industry that there is a formula to this business and that technology has changed the way network marketing businesses are built. It wasn't that my company or upline was lying to me it's just that their marketing system only works for 1% of distributors on the planet. The vast majority of people fail at network marketing because they cannot expose enough people fast enough to what they have to offer. This kid was teaching me that If I want to turn my business around and begin recruiting fast then I need to be using cutting edge technology to do it.

Looking back I have learned so much. I'm now light years ahead as far as skill-set, knowledge, and growth in my business. I can honestly say that I'm not bitter towards my company or upline. I have been blessed to learn how to think and build my business like a real business owner and not a distributor. This has made all the difference in the world!
