Lemon typically refers to anything that continually breaks or needs constant repair. In terms of cars, the laws defining lemons are much more specific. A lemon is a car that is found to have multiple or severe material defects not apparent before the purchase was finalized. These damages must severely impair the use, value, or safety of the car. Californias lemon laws are more inclusive than many other states. They are as all encompassing as the federal lemon laws, they include new, used, and leased cars, and protect the consumer above all else. The law was put in place to protect consumers who purchase or lease motor vehicles including motorcycles, RVs, cars, trucks, and even boats. For new cars, these can simply be errors made during the manufacturing of the car, such as parts being installed improperly. For used cars, this normally refers to the insufficient measures taken to repair damages to a car after an accident. There are many other reasons for a used car to be a lemon though. If it was ever in a flood there can be plenty of internal damage. Many used car lemons have been stolen, rebuilt and resold; others have odometers that have been fraudulently turned backwards. Even car reports cannot find all of the potential problems with used cars as they only have access to information reported publically. Fortunately, you have protection under the California Lemon Laws. If a car fails two attempts at repairing life-threatening defects, it is automatically considered a lemon. You must make many attempts to fix your car before it can be considered a lemon. If it fails two attempts at repairing life-threatening defects, it is automatically considered a lemon. You must attempt to have other types of malfunctions fixed a reasonable number of times before your car is eligible to be considered a lemon. If your car is in fact a lemon, you are very likely to be eligible for a variety of different advantages. Under California Lemon Law, you may be entitled to a full refund, payoff of your loan balance, or a replacement vehicle. Contact a qualified lemon lawyer for more
