By the time your research is finished, you'll be tired of hearing how complicated the procedure is and how much skill is required to perform the surgery. It is worth repeating, however. It takes a tremendous amount of skill. For that reason, it may be in your best interests to seek out a team of two or more surgeons who work in tandem on DIEP flap surgeries. You will be under constant monitoring during such a procedure at both surgical sites (the tummy and the chest), and there will be a far smaller chance of something going wrong. Anything you can do to reduce your risks is a good thing.

While not always the case, many DIEP flap procedures are designed to take place immediately following a mastectomy. While these procedures are rarely finished in a single session, there are benefits to going straight from one operating table to the next. Even if you choose to delay the surgery, it is important to find a plastic surgeon who is willing and able to work hand in hand with your oncologist to ensure the best results for both your aesthetic improvement and your health.
