Do You Know What Causes Acne
Many acne sufferers, especially young people, will be able to treat themselves and
manage their condition with medication purchased over the counter (without prescription). However, for some people more intensive treatment will be required and therefore a visit to the doctor or perhaps a dermatologist will be required. Many authorities on the subject suggest that by the time most young sufferers reach their early 20s they will no longer suffer from acne.
Comedogenic skin care products cause irritation to the skin as well as clogging of the pores. Some skin-care products which are made for acne can actually make the condition worse because the product is very harsh on the skin which will cause irritation.
When you are stressed out, the pituitary gland increases your hormone production, which stimulates the adrenal glands. The adrenals, in turn, secrete androgen, and too much androgen can enlarge the oil glands and stimulate excess sebum production, which can clog the pores and cause acne.
One of the main reasons for acne breakouts is the production of hormones such as androgen. The hormone androgen is produced by the body during the puberty stages of humans. Your skin glands produce a substance called sebum. Androgen makes your skin produce extra sebum. The extra sebum collects bacteria and dead skin cells that have been shed from the lining of your tiny hair follicles. This mixture is a great recipe for acne because it is sure to clog your pores. This is the reason why most of the people who have acne are adolescents and teenagers. Hormones that are produced during menstruation and pregnancy are also responsible for acne flare ups.
Medications - As we grow older we tend to get sick more often and inevitably we go to the doctor and then he/she writes a prescription. But what many suffers of acne don't know is that some of these prescribed medications contain ingredients that cause can stimulate acne, for example drugs like Bromides, Lithium, Corticosteroids, have all been proven to stimulate acne. You should avoid medications containing these drugs while simultaneously using a treatment for acne. But before you do anything discuss this with your doctor.
Most dermatologists focus entirely on the skin when they talk about the causes of teenage and adult acne. They concentrate on how dry cells mix with sebum, and the resulting blockages or plugs that occur in the pores. These plugs then lead to sebum build-up, and bacterial infections often result.
Although there is certainly truth to this answer, it is not complete. And failing to understand the deeper causes of teenage and adult acne unfortunately results in most acne treatments failing.
