House training my dog wasn't all that bad. It did take some time and patience. In the end, my dog is fully house trained which makes life a whole lot better for the both of us.

Being a working person, my new puppy was left alone in the house during working hours. This situation put a strain on the house training process. In the end, my house training technique proved successful for both my new best friend and myself.

I used puppy pee pads for the training process. Some don't advocate the use of pee pads but, when you have to leave your dog alone for long periods of time, the ending result is much better. I don't like the idea of crating.

This is a layout of my dog house training process. You may need to alter it to fit your particular needs and lifestyle.

Always take your dog outside right after eating. When he does his business, use praise. Always use the same word or phrase so he associates the two.

Never, never spank or yell at your dog if he has an accident. Pick him up and take him outside. Remember to praise using the same wording.

Where he makes a mistake, place a pee pad there. This will get him to associate the pee pad with doing his business.

Always have a pee pad placed next to the door where he exits to do his business.

After your dog starts to associate the pee pads with doing his business, start eliminating the pads until you have just one. It should be beside the door he always uses to go outside.

Eventually he will learn to go to the door and your response should be to take him outside. Remember to use lots of praise.

My final process was too eliminate the pee pad inside the door and place it outside the door. I think this helped him to further associate the outdoors as the ultimate place to relieve himself.

This was a long process. There were many mistakes along the way. Now my dog paces back and forth in front of the door when he needs to go out.

When I have to leave him alone, I place a pee pad beside the same door. If he needs to go, he uses the pee pad, otherwise he goes outside.

This is the way I house trained my puppy. Depending on your lifestyle, you may not have to use the pee pads, but it worked well for me and my dog. Always love your dog, because he truly is your best friend.
