. Before joining, research must be completed by you. You want to make sure you are getting what you need from martial art. Simply having a Black Belt as an instructor does not necessarily mean the school you have selected is decent, respectable and suitable for your needs.
Make certain you join up for the correct motives. Are you joining for self-defense? Do you simply want the exercise? Are you living your childhood dream? Before joining answer these questions and determine why you are joining a martial arts school. If youre joining because of some fictitious means of being a movie star, dont waste the time and money. Exercise and self-defense are terrific reasons to join martial arts schools.
Research the various methods and styles available. Trendy styles at this time include Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Judo, Krav Maga and Wing Chun Fu. Investigate on the internet or call schools in your community to ask about different methods and styles.
Any school that doesnt allow observation, you can cross them off your list. Call the schools that you did observe and like and have a conversation with the instructor. Ask what are their values and beliefs. An instructor that cannot answer is not a good school. This is what the character of martial art training is built upon and is critical for martial art teachings. Instructors with less than 3rd degree Black Belts shouldnt administer a school. The number of Black Belts graduated per year reflects on a good school.
If the ratio of students to instructors is more than eight to one, you dont want to join. This number is found to be the best for actually getting the instruction that you need to get the most from the martial art and advance your belt levels.
