Drytac Jm63 Electric 63 Inch Top Heated Cold Process Pressure Sensitive Roll Laminator Review
DryTac's JM63 is an ideal machine for any office looking for a versatile
, cold mount laminator. It offers excellent capabilities, fast speeds, and simple operation. Packed with safety features and designed for smooth, wrinkle free lamination, this is one machine to look at twice. Here are the details.
Strengths:
* The JM63 has an excellent laminating width. It's capable of handling items up to 63 inches wide- that's over five feet! This is perfect for posters, banners, retail displays, blueprints, maps, and more. Materials are processed at a rapid 12 feet per minute.
* Film can be as thick as 10mil for rigid covering or thinner for a more flexible finish. The rolls need to be on a three inch core and can have as wide as a 9.8 inch diameter.
* Use can be controlled automatically if desired. There is also a foot pedal for hands free operation.
* The 5.5 inch rollers are made from steel and covered in high release silicone. A single heated roller is adjustable from room temperature up to 248 degrees Fahrenheit. The optional top heated roller is great for use with pressure sensitive, heatset, and single sided thermal overlaminates and adhesives. The silicone helps to ensure your documents come out smoothly.
* A nip pressure indicator helps you keep the machine at the correct settings. The nip opening adjusts to accommodate materials up to 2 inches thick, enabling mounting and foam boards to go through. A single mechanical pressure adjustment helps with this feature as well.
* The paper infeed guide has a "hold flat" function to guarantee smooth feeding of curled edges. This device has both top and bottom auto-grip supply shafts as well as top and bottom wind up rollers. Extra windup shafts work well for rewinding roll to roll, decal, top, and tail applications.
* A front table folds away for storage when not in use, though with a machine this big it might not make much of a difference. The device sits on lockable casters for mobility when needed.
* Two emergency stops as well as a self-checking photocell system work to keep your office injury free by stopping the machine when fingers get too close.
* DryTac backs this product with a one year warranty.
Weaknesses:
* This isn't a heat laminator. While the top roller can get up to 248 degrees, it isn't rated for hot lamination. For a comparable machine offering both cold and hot lamination, we recommend the Royal Sovereign RSH-1651.
* As you might expect, this is a very large machine. It weighs 1170 pounds, stands almost 6 feet tall, and measures 87 inches across. The casters on the bottom will enable you to roll it around for relocation. However, be sure you have room for these dimensions before purchase.
* This device isn't programmable to remember job settings. While this is a nice option, it isn't a necessity. Most users don't find this to be a big problem.
Overall, the DryTac JM63 is an excellent cold laminator. It accommodates a wide variety of materials needing various temperatures and is easy to use. Professional print shops, copy shops, graphics companies, and any other business needing heavy duty laminating of wide items will highly benefit from the addition of this machine to their office.
