Exploring The Myths About Making A Career Choice Part 1
There are many myths surrounding the process of making a career choice
. This article explores some of these myths and provides information on how to make an informed decision in such a case.
Myth#1: Making a career choice is simple
Making a career choice is not really that simple. Rather it requires considerable participation and involvement on your part. It requires you to assess yourself, explore occupations, conduct informational interviews, setting goals, etc.
Myth#2: A career counselor will make the choice for me
A career counselor can only provide you information that can facilitate your career decision. However, you are the best judge when it comes to understanding what career is best for you. This is not to say that career counselors can't help you but do not take their response as your fate. Make your own decisions based on their suggestions.
Myth#3: Hobbies are for fun, not for making a living
If you enjoy doing something, then that could be the best way to make a living. Yes, it would require understanding market needs and a business sense but it is a fact that many people have and are successfully living off their hobby turned into their full-time career now.
Myth#4: Pick a career from the "Best Careers" or "Most wanted" lists
Search the internet for the best careers or the most wanted professionals for the current year and you will find many articles on the same. Best or most wanted does not mean the best or most appropriate for you. Do not make the mistake of choosing a career just because it has figured in some list. Choose a career that you love.
