Facebook Marketing: Moving Your Facebook Tabs To Secure Hosting
Facebook Marketing: Moving Your Facebook Tabs to Secure Hosting
As of October 1st, Facebook has announced that any iFrame page tabs that dont host a secure server under HTTPS will not be viewable to users browsing under the security of HTTPS. According to Cat Lee, one of Facebooks developer, The content will not be accessible for users with secure browser turned on. There will be a page that states something close to: This app does not support secure browsing.
Last February 2011, Facebook introduced the Secure browsing (HTTPS) option. This means that when browsing under HTTPS, any page content tab that is not hosted securely displays a popup telling users that the page is not secure. Page tab creators had the option of providing a secure page URL when displaying HTTPS users.
However, on October 1st, a secure URL is mandatory. So what is meant by secure browsing (HTTPS) and how do you get it? When a web page is hosted on a server enabled with the SSL (Secure Socket Layer) protocol via a security certificate, the content that is sent between a users browser and the server hosting your secure web is encrypted. It means that no one can intercept confidential information in transit.
Now all web hosting companies offer security certificates in most of their hosting plans. This can be a shared SLL certificate, where all sites on a single shared server are sharing a certificate, or a private SSL certificate, available to websites with a unique IP (web address). The shared SSL for Facebook page admins is a low cost and workable option. If you are looking for a cheaper option in hosting your page tabs index page, you can consider plans that offer shared SSL on a shared server.Although it is not really a good choice for an e-commerce site, shared SSL is fine for meeting Facebooks requirement for a securely hosted page.
When choosing a hosting company, these are the things that you need to consider:
How many domains can be hosted under the account?
Does the hosting include free domain registration?
Does the hosting company offer 24/7/365 phone support?
What are the restrictions on bandwidth and disk space?
How do different plans differ from each other?
You have to be cautious about which hosting site you choose. As part of your social media marketing strategy, choosing the good hosting site can leverage your business to the fullest.
