Find Out The Real Way To Potty Train A New Puppy

If you think training a puppy is all about shouting at them and smacking them with newspapers, you are completely wrong. It's not even about attempting to rub their nose in it when they potty on the carpet. It's about TEACHING them that they're supposed to potty outside and helping them succeed at it so that they learn faster. Being positive with a brand new pup gets the job done much faster than the old-fashioned negative reinforcement does. It might seem that I only think this since I'm a puppy and I do not like to get hit with a newspaper, but that's incorrect. Anyone who truly understands how to train a dog recognizes this is a fact. If you happen to talk to somebody who does not agree with this, you're getting really lousy information.

Use A Crate

The one thing that is essential when training a puppy is having a dog kennel. If you'd like your floor to be safer sooner rather than later, you need to have a kennel and you must use it. The pup will need to go potty the minute they be free from the dog kennel and immediately after they play. This isn't just an espression... it really is true. If you take them outside right after these two events, the housebreaking thing is going to be much easier. When the evil new dog first arrived, she typically went potty on the way to the door.

After you play with the pup, immediately carry them outside... yes... again. Put them in the kennel to snooze (mainly because they do this a lot). Follow a routine with the new dog. Kennel, potty, play, potty, kennel, potty, play, etc. Whenever you take them outdoors to potty, take them to the spot you want them to use and say whatever keyword you're going to use till they go. When they do potty outside where they're supposed to, you're supposed to make a fool of yourself. This means the puppy will relate peeing outdoors with you being really happy... this is good.

Our evil puppy Scout pee'd in her actual kennel two or three times, we did two things that stopped it: Reduced the size of the kennel (by putting a box in the kennel) so she didn't have as much extra space. "Caught" her in the act so she could be corrected right away. This is pretty important when learning how to potty train a puppy.

Towels

The clean up got a lot easier for us after we decided to utilize bathroom towels. My boss collected all the torn up light bath towels and put them on the counter-top. After the messes, we used a towel to soak it up, sprayed the carpet to deodorize it and set the towel in the bathroom sink and used it as a diaper pail. The washing will be much easier if the bath towels are a similar shade. We used a vacuum style carpet cleaner on the bad places weekly till the evil new dog finally got smart enough to only potty when she's outdoors. It took a lot of time because she's really not very smart... however I'm not really supposed to say that out loud.

Seriously... learning how to potty train a puppy is not the tough part. The hard part is the effort it takes. Teach them to potty outside. Whenever they leave their crate, IMMEDIATELY take them outdoors. Do the same thing immediately after they play... and eat, etc. Take them to their specific potty area. Get really excited when they accomplish what they're supposed to. The only hard part of housebreaking a new puppy is to complete these actions every single time until the new puppy is trained. The harder you work on it and the more attention you give towards the dog, the sooner they will stop going potty in the house.
