For Smart Students Only
Before the Fall 2010 add/drop period ends smart students will ensure they have registered
for the best professors by comparing official grade records and professor ratings on MyEdu.
MyEdu works directly with universities to give students unprecedented access to official grade records, letting them compare the number of A-Fs professors have historically given for a course.
For 10 years, MyEdu has worked with 750+ universities to accumulate and create the largest warehouse of academic data in the US.
The process has been anything short of simple.
From the beginning, MyEdu has always been by students, for students. MyEdu, originally known as Pick-a-Prof, started in 2000 at a bar in College Station, Texas. Yes, a bar!
College seniors, Chris Chilek and John Cunningham, two of MyEdu's founders, were using the payphone at the bar to call the registrar, (online registration was not yet available) and were in a predicament:
"I was trying to figure out who to take for a class, maybe it was History? There was a rumor that, if you could find them, you could flip through binders of old grade records in a basement somewhere but it was kind of like an urban legend."
"It was a really intriguing idea since we knew how much we wanted to see [the grades] and knew other students would want to see them too. We decided, if we could hunt them down, we would build a website and post them, then see where it went," explains Cunningham.
And so it began.
Chris and John, a computer engineering and marketing major respectively, created a website for Texas A&M students to access professor grade histories. Within the first 2 months over 800 students used the website. The next semester they doubled their success at The University of Texas at Austin.
Over the past decade, Chris and John have created a company that has helped more than 2 million students earn their degree. Nothing short of impressive.
"The company was literally started By Students, For Students' (Pick-A-Prof's slogan) and I'm proud to say the culture has not changed much along the way. We still have Beer Fridays."
"At a certain point it was not financially possible to give away access to all of the information and maintain the company, but it has always been our goal to get back to free," says Chilek. "I'm glad we are now able to get back to our roots, so to speak, and once again give students free access to official professor grade records by "Liking" them on Facebook."
"About two years ago, we found that there was a lot more we could do to help students than just find professors. We started collecting degree requirements, course catalogs, key semester dates, official course evaluations, AP & CLEP credit equivalencies and more. As our services grew beyond picking professors we needed a new name that would be broad enough to represent the new services. Since they help students personalize and manage their own education, MyEdu seemed like the perfect fit. We had the good fortune of meeting Michael Crosno and founded MyEdu together."
MyEdu released a new version of its most popular app, the class Schedule Planner, to include seamless integration with Facebook so students can see which classes their friends are taking.
Jenna Gibbs, a college junior, first used MyEdu's services her senior year of high school. "I've always checked the professor ratings and average GPAs on MyEdu before registering," said Gibbs. "I also plan out my classes with the degree timeline and now calculate my GPA."
Gibbs is not alone. During add/drops, students across the country will fine-tune their schedules by using MyEdu's free and
official grade records.
