Get Your Vehicles Repaired Before The Cold Winter Settles In

There are certain things you know you should do each season

, but you are just too busy and don't take the time to regularly do it. Changing the batteries every six months, having the AC unit checked each spring, and rotating the tires regularly just isn't something you do as often as you should. But even if you don't have your home systems checked each season, you should have your car checked over before each new season starts. There are changes that should be made with the fluids and the tires in order to keep your vehicle safe on the road through the winter months.

Check at Every Season

It is important to check on the health of your car each season because the temperature could have changed things in the car. The summer might have been extremely hot and the coolant, or antifreeze, within the engine had to work more than normal. As the fluid works harder and is pumped through the engine more, there is a higher chance that it will leak out. You will want to check the fluid levels to make sure they are at the right level before you proceed to drive in the winter.

The fluids might need to be changed, depending on the temperature of the region. Do you need to put in a different blend of oil that won't freeze? Do you need to change out the antifreeze? The fluids should be checked by a professional if you don't know how to do it. Having a fluid leak without you realizing it could mean that you might get stranded on the side of the road at some point, which is not desirable, especially if it is freezing outside.

Even though it is never fun to get stranded somewhere with an engine failure or some other malfunction of your car, the winter is probably the worst. If the engine doesn't run, then there will be no way to heat the car. When you have small children, that can be especially dangerous as you wait for a tow truck or a friend or family member to come and get you. Having preventative maintenance done on the car or a routine inspection could find a problem before it becomes disastrous to you and anyone that rides with you in the car.

Winter Tires

For people who live in the mountains or in rural areas, there are different rules about tires. Some states and regions require snow tires, and even chains, to be put on over the tires so that they will get traction on the roads. The chains will give it weight, but will also help the tire grab onto the road and provide better traction for you in rough and slippery conditions.

For people without chains, winter tires can provide the traction that is needed. Winter tires have more tread on them and can be installed at any tire or service center. The deeper treads will also give you more traction on snowy roads.
