Getting The Look For Less With A Used Lexus
In my business, image is important; I'm a freelance marketer specialising in social
media and although much of my job work is done from home in front of Twitter and Facebook and such, I do quite regularly have to go on meetings and 'brand activation' events that I've organised and I just couldn't turn up driving a Nissan or something like that.
You see, much of marketing is image. Online, image is easy to do - it's all in the way you write and the way you carry yourself in online discussions. OK, so maybe it's not easy, but image is easier to cultivate when no one can see you. Unfortunately, when you're offline, people expect a certain appearance, even from a social media specialist - I couldn't just turn up dressed in a hoodie and combats, driving a cheap car and using a Nokia from the 1990's. Image is everything in marketing and when it comes to digital marketing, that image tends to revolve around, well, stuff. Unfortunately, money's been tight thanks to the recession and the iPhone contract, so I ended up buying a used Lexus.
The handy thing was that I managed to get the used Lexus from an approved dealer, so the car was in practically new condition, was freshly valeted and even had that new car smell; essentially it's perfect. I can turn up in a luxury car, throw on some comfy but smart clothes and break out the iPhone - basically, looking the part. After the first impression is made, I then get to go to work and do my thing.
Image is obviously very important in what I do, both on and offline, and I don't really go to work until I've established that image. Once I've done that, I can then start telling people what I know and do my work for them, and that's where the fun really starts.
I was really glad that buying a used Lexus helped me to establish the image I needed to do my job offline, and it did it for a price that was within my budget so I didn't break the bank on image since, as important as image is for what I do, it's not really everything and anyone in my line of work that tells you otherwise simply isn't that good at their job.
Saving the money on the used Lexus over buying a new one also helped me save for something that was essential to my job: a shiny new laptop.
