Greenhouse Insulations For Your Greenhouse

During the spring and summer one's greenhouse flourishes with bountiful plant life

, however fall and winter can be very harmful. If someone likes to grow things all year round there are several steps one needs to take in ensuring proper heating, lighting, and growth.

The major step is making sure there is proper and adequate greenhouse insulation installed during the fall and winter seasons. To choose the proper insulation one needs to consider the type of plants that are growing, the natural and artificial light that is used, and the amount of heat needed for the greenhouse itself.

Many greenhouses produce their own heat from the light source that is used during the plants growth process. While other greenhouses have to have special heating ducts and sources added to ensure there is a warmer climate for the plants to grow. In either case to cut down on energy costs and to make a more efficient greenhouse one should use the appropriate greenhouse insulation.

There are two commonly used greenhouse insulations, which is the bubble insulation, and the reflective insulation. Both are relatively inexpensive and easy to install in ones greenhouse. In addition, they are easy to remove during warmer seasons and have the ability to be reused.

The greenhouse bubble insulation is made of clear 1" diameter bubbles that are a of an inch deep and a nylon reinforced backing. All of which is fully translucent to ensure that proper lighting gets through. This type of insulation is installed on the inside of the greenhouse glazing. The bubble greenhouse insulation can reduce ones heating costs by up to 45% while letting the defuse light emanate evenly across the greenhouse.

Before installation, one should measure and cut the appropriate lengths needed for each panel of greenhouse glazing. Once the strips of insulation are cut, one is ready to install them. Installation is easy and effortless. Properly installing the bubble insulation, place the bubbles against the inner greenhouse glazing securing it with two-way tape. The greenhouse bubble insulation may be left up all year round if one desires and is usually good for up to 4 years.

The greenhouse reflective insulation is awesome for ones greenhouse if he or she wants an insulation that will reflect light and help with heating. The reflective aids in keeping ones plant life warmer while minimizing four different heat loss possibilities. The four top ways heat is lost in a greenhouse are radiant, infiltration, convective, and conductive.

It also reflects and increases the light source used and evenly distributes it throughout the entire greenhouse. If one has a glass greenhouse, it is ideal for use on the ceiling or north wall to catch and reflect the appropriate lighting.

The greenhouse reflective insulation is 5/16" in thickness and is made of seven layers of poly bubbles and aluminum foil. This insulation is tough for ware, but easy to cut with scissors or a straight blade. To install the reflective insulation one should measure and cut the appropriate lengths desired. Then place on the inside of the greenhouse glazing attaching with adhesive tape. For the joints and seams, one should use foil tape. It is that simple. In addition, if someone plans to reuse either the bubble or the reflective insulation, he or she can install it using Velcro strips instead of tape.

With either greenhouse insulation, one cannot go wrong. Both are easy to install, great with distributing the light throughout the greenhouse, and help keep energy and heating bills down.
