According to a report by eWeek.com, AMI says this figure will rise by 40 per cent in the next 12 months, as business explore every money-making avenue possible. Prashanth Motupalli, survey research analyst at AMI, said: "The current generation of worker is never without their mobile device, especially those who take up freelance jobs. Many workers already use mobile devices to email and browse the web, but they are now looking for more sophisticated business applications while not in the office. This opportunity means much more than just spreadsheets and documents, and has created a large amount of jobs for freelance web designers, as well as freelance graphic designers, as a result of businesses wanting their app to reflect their company website.

The news that more companies are looking to utilise custom business apps will also be welcomed by iPhone freelance specialists working in the field of mobile phone app development. The sector looks set to grow considerably over the coming months, with it being relatively easy to find a freelancer who specialises in this field. Apple recently announced that 57% of the world's top 500 companies have either adopted the iPhone or are trialling its use, so it doesnt look like itll be long before mobile business apps really start to take off.

The Director of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) has called on businesses in Wales to look carefully at the opportunities being presented as a result of increased smartphone use. As a result, it seems that mobile business apps will definitely be something we see a lot more of in the coming year. Although it can be an expensive investment, the benefits to be reaped from it are never ending.

Prudential Retirement is an example of a company that has recently invested in their own mobile app, in a bid to make it simpler for clients and business partners to access the firm's products and services. Prudential Retirement, part of the Prudential Financial group, has unveiled a new website optimised for mobiles, which will allow account access to 2.5 million of its retirement plan participants while they're on the move. In addition, the company has invested in mobile phone app development and launched a Retirement Income Calculator app for smartphones, designed to allow users to calculate their estimated monthly retirement income and estimated monthly retirement income need.

Recent research discovered an 85% increase in the number of people interested in mobile media, when compared to the figures from 2010. There was also a 57% increase in interest in social media compared to a year earlier, so it seems mobile phone apps are definitely the way forward.
