Adding a conservatory to your home should add to its value and desirability - and

it will give you lots more living space indoors that can be used as a kitchen, living room, playroom, or dining room. But what can you do if you have inherited a drab and dreary conservatory that desperately needs a revamp?

Good blinds keep you warmer in winter and protect you from the glare of the sun in summer. Lightweight roller blinds are a popular choice for conservatories because they are easy to raise and lower and let in the maximum amount of light when they are up. You can even get special reflective blind fabric to keep your conservatory cool.

The natural and muted colour gives the space a textural and earthy feel. All nature-inspired colour palettes containing greens, blues, creams, tans and browns are obviously fantastic in conservatories....bringing nature indoors!

Control the temperature with an automatic vent controller. Conservatories can be too hot in summer and too cold in winter which obviously leads to condensation, but this can be countered easily by purchasing one of these devices. When partnered with a conservatory rain sensor unit, you can also prevent rain from getting in through the vents by automatically overriding the vent controller at the first signs of rain.

If you have ignored the above point and you have single glazed windows, then you will get condensation and condensation equals damp and mildew. In such cases, your furniture options are limited. You sadly can only go for low absorbent furniture like metal or plastic.

Simple tiled floors can be kept clean and if you intend to have a lot of plants in the conservatory, you don't have to fret about spillages. Tiles also keep cool in the sun and won't cost you a fortune to install.

Keep your conservatory design consistent with the dcor of your home. Use a similar colour scheme, furniture style or fabric choice as is found in an adjoining area. Incorporating a common element allows the room to stand apart from the other spaces in your home without seeming out of place.

Keep a doormat inside and outside of the door to trap any dirt or moisture.

Try hanging lanterns from the roof of your conservatory and filling with trailing plants.

These small tips will help transform you troublesome conservatory in the perfect location for relaxation for the whole family.
