How To Plan Your Next House Move
So you're planning to move house? The question is can you trust your interstate removalists do the right job for you
? Of course nothing quite prepares you for the trauma of a big move, but there are some things you can do to minimise the stress and make the move relatively pain-free. With some careful planning and some thought about how to organise things, you might be surprised at how easy it is to make that interstate move.
You might be fortunate enough to have your removal fully paid for by your company in which case you can place everything in their hands, from packing and preparation right through to placing your furniture in your new dwelling. But for the majority of people there are lots of things to do and, usually, not much time to do it. So let's take a look at how you can prepare and plan to make everything is smooth and practical as possible.
The first thing to do is to give some careful thought to all the things that have to happen. You have to cancel all your utilities and make sure you pay all the outstanding bills. Many people find themselves with an adverse report on their credit file because they forgot to pay their last utility bill.
Next, it pays to think about the space you are moving to. Plan where each piece of furniture will be situated in your new home and label the furniture in your existing house either by colour-code or number so that the removalists can easily put the furniture into the correct room in your new house.
If your removalists are not doing the complete move for you, it's a good opportunity to test out your friendships by calling on everyone you know to give you help on moving day. Make sure you allocate tasks in an orderly fashion so that there are no overlaps and give priority to the tasks which take the most time. For example, packing up the kitchen can be a timely task because every cup, saucer and glass must be individually wrapped and placed in boxes.
After you have completed an inventory of all of your goods, get some advice from the removalist as to how many boxes you will need. Also, give consideration to the size of boxes because you don't want to have too much weight in any one box. Don't forget to purchase as much wrapping paper as possible. It is always better to have too much than too little. Additionally, remember to buy plenty of packaging tape and a couple of tape dispensers to make sealing boxes that much easier.
Make sure the children are taking care of on moving day. This is where grandparents and other family members can provide a valuable service, so don't forget to line them up early.
All it takes is a little bit of preplanning and your move can be very smooth indeed. Interstate
removalists are always able to give you a guiding hand and some of them even provide helpful checklists, but if not, the above five points should get you through.
