How To Protect Your Home Security In Upstate New York

People who live in Upstate New York can have it tough sometimes getting a little bit of recognition

. When most Americans and, heck, most people around the world hear the words New York, they generally attach the word city to the end of it, whether consciously or unconsciously. The city is considered one of the cultural capitals of the world, with millions upon million people in its five boroughs. It is the biggest city in the United States.

This often casts people who live in Upstate New York from Rochester to Poughkeepsie to Saratoga Springs under a big shadow. But Upstate New York is one of the most beautiful parts of the country, and should be celebrated for its heritage as such. From the Hudson Valley to the Adirondacks to the shores of Lake Ontario, the state certainly has a lot of natural beauty.

But with the more country, relaxed vibe of New York State, especially in towns like Brookhaven and Hempstead, some residents can forget to protect their home security properly. They might think that the crime Upstate is nothing compared with what goes on in New York City. And in a way, they are right. But the difference is that in New York, you are more likely be the victim of a brief crime of opportunity a quick robbery after spotting an expensive new MP3 player. Upstate, on the other hand, you are probably more likely to suffer from a planned attack (that is, of course, if you experience a break-in in the first place! Here are some ways that New York State (ahem, not city!) residents can bolster their home security.

1. Invest in a good home security system

You are not living in a small, dingy, singles apartment with a handful of random roommates anymore. You are most likely living in a house that you own or have a mortgage on, and you need to make sure that it stays safe. This way, if something happens, the police, fire department, and ambulance services will arrive almost instantaneously.

2. Lock the backdoors

Many people neglect to close and lock the backdoor when they leave the house. Maybe they are rushing to n appointment, maybe they are distracted by being with their kids, or maybe they just forgot. Regardless, leaving a door open is an easy invitation for a robber to accept. Get in the habit of taking the extra 10 seconds it takes and lock the backdoor every time you leave.

3. Consider shatter-proof glass

It can seem like there is always another product debuting on the market just to promote consumerism. But getting double-pained glass is really worth the investment. This way, If someone tries to smash a window of your house at night, they will likely be unable to do so, no matter how hard they try or what tools they use. Moreover, such windows are better at heating rooms in winter and cooling them in summer an added bonus!
