How Will You Pay For Your College Education?

Most high school seniors are thinking about next year

. That is when they plan to enter college. While it is true that many high school graduates cannot continue on to college, a high percentage of them do at least desire to go. If you happen to be a high school senior or the parent of one, the one thing you really need to plan for is how you will pay for that higher education. You do not want to be in a position for years from now where you have to consider private student loans consolidation. Student loan consolidation is necessary for many who have incurred multiple private and federal debt repayment plans.

Before you consider borrowing money, you should look into getting free money. The most obvious free money is from scholarships. There are many sources for scholarships. The easiest resource is the college itself. Every college offers scholarships for sports and academics. If you do not qualify for those, look for individual scholarships from other institutions. There is money available for many different qualifications, including ethnic origin, economic status, and even things like whether you have red hair and freckles. Perhaps the most used source of funds, but also the most overlooked source, is the federal government. They offer student aid based usually on financial need along with several other factors. Before you think of borrowing your first dollar find out whether you qualify for student aid from the US Department of Education. There are some basic qualifications that you must meet, and they include the following:

-You must be a US citizen or show eligibility as a noncitizen.

-You must have a Social Security number.

-If you are male, age 18-25, you must register for selective service.

-You should have decent grades in a college preparatory curriculum.

-You must demonstrate that you qualify to enter a college or postsecondary educational institution. This usually means that you have a high school diploma.

There are several different aspects of the federal student aid program. There are a couple of different federal grants available, such as the Pell grant. You may also be eligible for a student work study program which allows you to earn money while you are in school, and the jobs are usually on campus.

Another way to get a free education or at least partially free, is through the veterans administration. It is possible to skip a few years of college and enlist in one of the service branches right out of high school. After your discharge you will be available for the G.I. Bill, which will pay for your college tuition as well as room and board. One more military option is to enlist in the ROTC program while in college. The military will pay for your entire college education, and all you have to do is give them a few years of active service.

Getting a good education is practically required in today's society. But rather than borrowing money to pay for that education, if you just think creatively and plan ahead, you can avoid repaying college debt that normally takes years and years.
