Introduction to the Illuminative Way

In retrospect it is easy to see the beginning of my illuminative way as I then began to keep a dream journal as well as to become more aware of God guiding and directing me through the happenings of my life. I was also aware that I had come through many difficulties seemingly unscathed and felt a profound divine protection and presence. In February of 1981 I wrote the following poem which I entitled "My Life"

My life has many stages in a journey that islong. But as I walk on through it I will always sing a song. My song will be of joy and my steps will be to share. For orphans and poor people, I will always gently care.

I have walked for many miles now; I thought I knew the way. But ever lately have I learned the meaning of each day. The Lord has been my leader and the Lord will be my guide. He is teaching me to walk ahead, courageous in my stride.

He has trained me as a teacher for all ages in the land. He taught me Sacred Scripture and he took me by the hand. He let me see disasster in the church and in my life. Yet all has but prepared me for the last and final strife.

I've covered thre great periods in my life so far to serve. And I know four more are coming greater than I yet deserve. The next will be a love-filled one, my family will increase;the following a giving one in which I find greatpeace.

The last shall be a waiting one, the shortest one of all. For it will only just begin and I will hear His call. And then together with my loved ones--all eternity, to praise the mercy of the Lord, as endless as the sea.

Perhaps the poem was somewhat proophetic as I have often reread it and thought of how things have developed. Nonetheless, at this point in my life I began to follow my dreams. I often gave them a title and drew someof the dream figures. Part III is a sharing of these dreams, how I interpreted them, and how they changed my life.
