Is Google The Poor Man's Watson?

Is Google The Poor Man's Watson?

Is Google The Poor Man's Watson?

Copyright (c) 2011 Titus HoskinsWhile watching Watson, IBM's ultra computer, beat some of the smartest humans on the planet on Jeopardy, it suddenly occurred to me, wouldn't Watson be the ultimate search engine? One that could give Google a real run for its money. Don't laugh, please.Basically, Google has evolved into just an answer machine. Some say just an advertising machine but why think nasty. We use Google to answer our questions. Sure, at the moment it's tied up with presenting web pages, in order to supply us with most of those answers. But when you really think about it... unless we are actually searching for a web site, this is a very indirect way of finding our answers. Now there is a better way.An entity such as Watson, hooked up to the web and your Internet connection, could supply your answers without you having to bother with the time consuming process of actually going to a web site to find the information you want. Watson direct answer. Google indirect answer. Which one would you rather have on your desktop? In a perfect world, probably both, Google for the web stuff and Watson for the real answers.IBM should forget about supplying Watson to medical doctors, what's a few human lives when we could have the true computing power of the most advanced technology on the planet sitting right there at our fingertips. Heck, I would even pay to have access to such knowledge and I am sure I would not be alone in my thinking.Just imagine a Watson app for your smartphone... now we are really talking. But getting back to our theoretical argument, why not turn Watson into a search engine, one that supplies the most likely answers to all our questions. You can even connect it up with web sites, most of which are SEO-ed to death so that they show up in antiquated search engines, such as Google and Bing. Web users desperately need something new and novel to give them the answers without all that advertising interference and manipulation. Why settle for a poor man's Watson, when we can have the real thing. Come on IBM, give something back to the common man, give us Watson as the ultimate search engine on the planet. Place it online and make it available with one click of a mouse. Please, pretty please. It would also be a perfect way to monetize Watson, which could pay returns beyond you wildest dreams, just ask Google. Search engines are the ultimate cash cows which will never run dry as long as humans remain such inferior stupid creatures. Only one last question we have to answer... what the heck is a Toronto????
