Isolating The Effectiveness Of Acne Treatment
Typical acne treatment is often recommended as simply washing the area prone to attack
. Although a part of it, the difficulty often comes in actually identifying the acne. Sometimes inflammations are simply irritants acting out. The first step in isolating the effectiveness of acne treatment is to actually get the acne diagnosed by a medical professional and proceeding from there into treatment.
Acne actually is known for first coming into existence under the skin and not on the surface. Buffing or rubbing the outer part of the skin should not do much to destroy acne, it would effectively promote new skin growth. With this in mind, it is also important to stress that cleansing the face too much could be counter-productive or damaging. It could dry out or further irritate the skin. However, a cleansing bar or special facial wash can encourage skins natural balance so it is recommended if evaluated on an individual basis.
Facial cleansing is a natural part of the regular cleansing process in hygiene, but exfoliation is the next step past that. Exfoliating can be necessary for removing the skin cells that have died and reinitialization of new skin cells. This is a wonderful step to encourage simply because it promotes growth of healthy skin. Too much of a good thing is possible, so limit this type of process to once or twice a week. Foreign debris is virtually non existent in properly exfoliated skin.
Some people do not realize that their acne might effectively be being treated, but before they can feel the effects of the above steps they sabotage their own actions by clogging their own pores again. This is done inadvertently because people do not realize the ingredients of their lotions and makeups. Oil based products cause clogged pores. Immediately change skin products to oil free alternatives whenever possible.
Medication is a recommended method of acne-fighting. Medication varies, but the most popular and well known one is benzoyl peroxide. It is prescribed the most because it is effective in attacking bacteria. In addition to killing bacteria, it also unplugs ducts and assists existing acne pimples in the healing process. This is found in both over-the-counter and prescription form.
Another modern medically prescribed treatment for acne is retin-a. It is also available over-the-counter. Care with use of this product is recommended because it does make skin more sensitive and may cause peeling. This product is more of a long term use product because it usually takes two months before improvement can be seen.
Antibiotics are sometimes prescribed by doctor's prescription only to kill bacteria that contribute to the source of whiteheads. Although touted as a cure all for this type of acne, there have been side effects reported. This product appears to be causing people to be more susceptible to sunburn.
Aggressive acne treatment will yield terrific results if practiced consistently and responsibly. Many alternatives are available and there is advice always available through medical professionals. Recommendations should be taken at value through individual evaluation because what works for one person might not work so well for someone else.
