It is probably time to consider buying a new mattress
The earliest beds ever slept on were thought to have belonged to the Ancient Egyptians in around 8000 BC, and unless you were very wealthy (The very rich slept in very ornate carved beds, sometimes decorated with gold gilt), you had to sleep on little more than a straw mat covered with coarse linen.
Thankfully, modern beds provide a much broader range of options for the more discerning adult sleeper to choose from (Unless you really do prefer straw mats). One of the first considerations to take into account when deciding which bed is the right size for you is the size of the bed. Single beds usually measure around 39 inches by 75 inches, and are usually suitable for smaller rooms where there is limited space. If you prefer to stretch out however, there are single beds which can be converted into double beds at night. Double beds measure around 54 inches by 75 inches, while King size bedsmeasure roughly 76-78 inches by 84 inches. And if you really do have space to stretch out in, California king size beds measure seventy-two by eighty-four inches!
Ideally, you should have a bed which not only fits into the room, but which also accommodates the sleeper (Or sleepers). If your room is particularly small, there is probably little point in searching for king size beds which will not allow you to use the room during the day time or even give you enough floor space in which to get dressed in the morning. One solution is to use wall beds. These are double beds or king size beds which fold neatly away into the wall. King size beds and double beds which convert into sofas in the day are also available, and futons are a handy alternative to single beds for those wishing to save on space. Another key thing to remember is to choose a bed which will not restrict the sleeper from movement or a bed which is too small or short for the sleeper.
Choosing the right bedframe and mattress is also important in terms of health and wellbeing. Orthopedic beds use a range of systems such as sprung mattresses and memory foam to assist a good night's sleep for those with back problems or other issues, and are available in a range of sizes from single beds to king size beds. Double beds with split mattresses are also available for those who wish to have features such as electrical mobility, but only on one side of the bed. Other factors also need to be taken into account, such as allergies and lifestyle changes. If you are sleeping less than usual, or if your sleeping needs have changed in any way for the worse, it is probably time to consider buying a new mattress and even a new bed, if this is where the problem lies.
