Journey Of Innovation In Tvs
It seems that every new technology in the TV and large display category of the electronic
lifestyle products is not quite satisfying for the researchers. You always have more and more newer technologies continually coming. Even before one gets to know the older one, there is a new one that is launched. The pace of ushering in of the newer technologies is such that you need to keep track of them on daily basis by reading the TV reviews from whatever source you can lay your hands on. At first there was the CRT TV. Then were introduced the improved features and vastly improved viewing quality with the LCD TVs. Then the researchers found that replacing the bulb for backlighting with the light emitting diode (LED) gave even better viewing experience. So, the flat panel LED TV entered the scene.
These were further played with and what emerged was the OLED TV, or organic LED TV, which made use of a thin layer of organic compounds which glowed when electric current was passed through it. OLED does not use the backlight to display the functions. Now, there is a talk of a new technology called surface-conduction electron-emitter display, better known by its short abbreviation, the SED. The good thing about this is that it combines the benefits of the good old CRT TV and the LCD TV. Scoring over both of them, it uses less power than either of them.
Though the talk has till now remained focused on the different variants of the display technologies, there are a lot of things happening on the front of adding functionalities to the TVs. Reading through the TV reviews can make you think that these are not just TVs any more. This so called high definition TV, or the HDTV, can connect with your internet connection, set-top box, DVD player and a few other electronic devices to give you an all-in-one solution. And, if you feel that there will be a mesh of unmanageable wires around, you are probably missing on the latest developments in the wired and wireless technologies. The chances are that you might be requiring only one HDMI wire to make all the required connections. You can have your HDTV fixed on the wall or be kept on a specially designed mount. These days, the TV mounts are designed in such a way that allows keeping of other devices along with it allows optimum utilization of space and it can also hide the connecting wire, giving a clean and non-messy look to the room.
It is ironical to see, learn and hear that on the one hand, TV screens are becoming flatter and larger and, on the other hand, the TV screens are shrinking in size as well. You now have portable TVs of the size of your mobiles to carry wherever you like and in the way you want. These come with antennas for reception. You would be amazed to see that the basic features and the viewing quality do not leave much to be desired.
You shall realize by now how far the technology (from CRT to SED) and the design ( HDTV, TV Mounts, HDMI cables and much more) has gone in giving you the home-theatre experience.
