KEF KHT3005SE Review

KEF has been around long enough to earn itself a reputation as a producer of surround sound systems, but the KEF KHT3005SE demonstrates that there is always more that can be done. The latest model has updated the appearance, and improved their already impressive capabilities.

The satellite speakers have been designed in a way that allows them to be set up in many different arrangements. A shelf stand, wall bracket, and pole stand are available to choose from. The center speaker comes with a rubber matt to hold it on top of your television.

The lacquered surface of the speakers gives them a modern, rounded appearance. The cast aluminum enclosures provide a good contrast. The egg shape is good to look at, but draws a lot of attention. They are a good choice if you want to show them off, less so if you want them to blend in.

All standard speakers use a tweeter for the highs and a midrange speaker for the lows. Most speakers have the tweeter separate from the midrange. The KEF setup features a tweeter and midrange at the same location. This blends the sound more smoothly.

While the satellites have been improved upon to offer even deeper bass than before, the subwoofer certainly hasn't been compromised. It is designed to get the most out of its 250 watts. With the bass boost on, the full capabilities are made obvious. Powerful as it is, it's also precise. The rumble of the woofer doesn't wash out the overall sonic experience or distract from what is happening on screen.

The KEF KHT3005SE is not a cheap system, but it is inexpensive for what it has to offer. It offers a sonic experience that is tightly controlled and immersive.
