Many companies are looking for leaders to help them grow and expand

. Unfortunately, there are fewer leaders today than the positions demands. As a result, many companies are trying to play catching up. As a result, it is becoming increasingly important for companies to get people with leadership skills.

Many companies have adopted some of the best management practices. There escalation matrix is well defined, the process maps, roles and responsibilities have been properly defined and other such important execution aspects are put in place. While all this can help run the business, it will not drive the business.

The real drive in the business comes from leaders within the organization. Leaders can associate the personal and company skill sets with some opportunities in the market. With this forethought they can then drive ideas and concepts that can help the company get an entry into new markets and thus drive the business. It is this kind of attitude and approach that can really help the company forge ahead rather than stagnate.

One of the biggest misconceptions about leaders is that they are always in the management side. This is detrimental in two ways. First problem with this ideology is that the company is not limiting the scope of growth to just the management people and not really looking at grassroots. The second problem is that almost all managers consider themselves to be a leader when they really may not have the skills to lead.

This is where knowing who the real leaders are within the organization is so important. Leaders are not always at the higher management levels. Leaders can be found in any company right from the new entrant who joins the company to the experienced top management. People with true leadership skills can transform the company if they are given the right exposure and opportunities.

Leaders have some typically skills. They are unfazed by challenges and in fact are eager to take on new responsibilities. They are not only good themselves, but they can also inspire their colleagues to support them and rally around them. They are initiative, inspirational, hardworking, focused and tend to develop and maintain great people relationships. They can really bring about visible changes that help the company function better.

Leaders are quite different from managers. Managers can manage tasks. Leaders can lead and set an example. If you have a task at hand, a manager is skilled enough to ensure the proper execution, through coaxing or by force. A leader on the other hand can inspire the people to complete the task and also look for newer avenues to improve the team. Thus leaders can bring about changes in the company which managers cannot.

Companies can sort out their leadership crisis and ensure good bunch of leaders if they catch the leaders early. Once the leaders are identified at various levels, they need to be given opportunities to try out their skills. With proper guidance, protection and encouragement, the young leaders can hone their skills to help drive the organization in the future.
