Overview

The municipal town, Lanjarnis situated in thewestern area of the mountainous district Alpujarrasin theGranada province inSpain. This is located at a distance of 50 KM from Granada in the heart of the National Park of Sierra Nevada and is this region's gateway. It is popular for the mineral water and the first bottled water company was established in this place. The water here has curative properties and the spas here are very popular. This water is being used for various treatments and you will find that more elderly tourists come to this place for treatment. Death penalty is prohibited in this town.

History

A ruined castle built by Moors and a rocky outcrop overlook this town. As per the legend, the Moorish ruler of this town jumped from the tower of the castle when he found that the Christian army that was led by Fernando, the Catholic King was on the verge of victory. This was done to avoid surrendering himself to the Christian army. You will find a number of restaurants and bars in the main street of Avenida de la Alpujarra.

The streets of this town were built in Moorish style and the houses are built in traditional architecture. The popular monuments in this town are the remains from the Moorish castle and the Mudejar style parish church built in the 16th century.

The water in this place contains the bicarbonates of Sodium and Calcium, Iron, etc. It has digestive and diuretic properties. The therapies offered in this place are for respiratory problems, digestive system, nervous system, stress and rheumatism.
