Leadership Motivation - Engagement. Often in a seminar I'll ask different people what the word "Engagement" mean to them?

Engagement: They will come up with connection, joining, making a commitment, even a trial period. Now that comes up every now and again, and I have to laugh as I try and share with them that I have been engaged three times and had four engagement parties. Much to their joy, and in that process or in its pure essence of the word it is true, you do get to have that trial period of the relationship and see whether or not if that is one that you wish to commit too and follow through with.

However, in that area of engagement, in my own terms or interpretation of the word, I am often asking people to find something, find someone that people are really interested in. And that really is the key or principal definition of the word for me.

Interesting. So when I am thinking about Engagement, I am thinking, what do I need to do or what to I need to say to make someone interested in me or maintain their interest. Because initially they may be really keen and excited about the topic you are discussing, but soon after that dissipates.

So what we are looking at is how do we keep people continually engaged. By going back to the word engagement, may I encourage you to "pop the question" so to speak, such as you would if you were wanting to get engaged. Just as I have had some experience, there with that. Asking a person what engages them, what motivates them? What turns them on, what switches them on, and what switches them off? Rather than playing this guessing game about what you might think is keeping them interested, why not just "pop the question" and ask them.What interests you and find out what engages them?
