When he makes the mental decision to go into business for yourself, you have to choose a product or service to promote. The product or service that you promote, you MUST know something about. You have to do the research on a product before you can promote it. Promoting a product you know nothing about is like talking to your investment broker about your heart condition. Nothing is going to come of that conversation.

The first mistake people make when starting a business is starting something they know absolutely nothing about. Granted, many on-line businesses require very little experience, however knowledge is different from experience. Knowledge is learned either from school or self educating. Experience is what you gain from being on the job.

The second common misconception when starting a business is that people think that they can go form flat broke to millionaire overnight. News flash: It Won't Happen! A home based business is like any other business. You will get out of it what you put into it. Let's say you start an on-line store. Your store is fully stocked and fully functional. All you have to do now is wait for the customers to start pouring in, right? Wrong! Even physical stores promote their grand opening. You have to work the business.

This brings me to my third point. Businesses sometimes fold because the owners "give up" too quickly. Things are not going the way they want them to so they quit. They are not making the money that the business package promised so they quit. You can't just give up when things don't go your way. You have to strive for success.

Finally point number four is that in striving for success, don't try to find the work around to anything. Nine times out of ten the work around is an illegal method that will get your site or business banned from the internet. Concentrate your energy on getting your success legally. Otherwise, you have wasted time, energy, and money.

If you decide to start a business, you need to be knowledgeable about the business, be determined to succeed and don't expect to become a millionaire overnight.
