New England Patriots - A New Era Begins

For the Patriots of New England, the 2010 campaign is likely to look significantly different from the past few seasons

. For one thing, the team has reached one of those critical points every team must face every few years. Salary issues have taken center stage, and a number of personnel changes are taking place as a result.

In addition, the Patriots drafted an even dozen talented young players in 2010, which means that coach Belichick will have his hands full leading his team to a repeat or improvement of their 20009 performance.

Most people were surprised when Belichick selected Devin McCourty out of Rutgers as his first pick of the 2010 Draft. After all, weren't the Patriots already solid in the secondary? Well, second guessing the great Belichick is pretty much a waste of time, as the man never seems to put himself in a position where he is hostage to the whims of his players or events.

The selection of McCourty offers the team incredible depth in the position, protection from injury, and greater speed and skill on special teams.

When you say the name "Grankowski", you just know that you're talking about a football player. A big tight end that played for Arizona, Grankowski has excellent hands and will enable Tom Brady to make more of a passing impact over the middle of the field. Look for the big man to see significant playing time in 2010, and perhaps even become a starter by the middle of the season.

Prospects for 2010

As for the team's potential for this coming season - they're the Patriots. They will compete for the AFC East title, and stand toe to toe with the Colts for the Conference lead throughout the season. Belichick's teams have been dominant for some time now, and his ability to plug new players into his system without skipping a beat is legendary. 2010 Will be a continuation of that process.
