Nfl Tickets - Week 2 Looks Alive With Upsets
The 2010 NFL season has gotten underway with no clear favorites yet in the league
, providing a ton of movement as the power rankings change dramatically from week to week. Last year's top teams are no longer the dominant powers in the NFL, and there are several teams fighting to break out this season. Here are some of the biggest upsets from Week 2 of the regular season.
Miami Dolphins over Minnesota Vikings, 14-10. The Dolphins stuck to the run and stunned the Vikings 14-10 in a nail-biter that saw Brett Favre and the Vikes lose their second game of the season. The Vikings' prolific defensive front got more than a chink in its armor when the Dolphins let Ronnie Brown lead the way, and the running back notched 80 yards on 13 carries to help lead the scoring for Miami.
On the other side of the ball, Brett Favre ended the game with a measly 44.3 quarterback rating, going 22 of 36 for 225 yards and ending the game with four turnovers. Turnovers were the main factor in the game, but the absence of Sydney Rice and healthiness of Percy Harvin are sure making a difference to this Minnesota team. Favre needs to get back on track if the Vikings want a chance at the postseason again this year, as his team is now off to a 0-2 start. The Fins, on the other hand, are an underrated team and now lead the AFC East with a 2-0 record.
Cincinnati Bengals over Baltimore Ravens, 15-10. Cincinnati's Mike Nugent kicked his way to a Bengals win over the Ravens in Week 2, posting a career-high five field goals including two last-minute goals that led Cincinnati over Baltimore in a Week 2 upset. The Ravens went in strong to the Week 2 matchup but couldn't outlast their competitors, leaving much to be desired on offense as Joe Flacco led his team to a disappointing loss. Flacco turned the ball over four times and ended the day going 17 of 39 for 154 yards and a passer rating of 23.8.
On the other side of the ball, Cincinnati didn't exactly get things rolling on offense. While he didn't have any turnovers, Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer was only 16 of 35 with 167 yards and no touchdowns. Still, a win is a win, and this was a big one for the orange-and-black stripes.
New York Jets over New England Patriots, 28-14. This AFC East rivalry spawned the sales of tons of NFL tickets, and fans at the New Meadowlands were in for a pleasant surprise as Mark Sanchez led his Jets over the hated Patriots in Week 2. The Jets looked like a completely different team than the one that got slaughtered by the Ravens in Week 1, and Sanchez's career-high three touchdowns helped lead the team over Tom Brady's Patriots in a marked victory for this New York team.
What makes the Jets' win over the Patriots even better was that they won largely without the help of Darrelle Revis, who left the game with a tight hamstring in the second quarter. The fate of the game was solidified when Jason Taylor sacked Tom Brady in the fourth quarter with four minutes left in the game, with the ball popping out under him and Bryan Thomas recovering it to secure a Jets victory.
Close Call: New Orleans Saints and San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers looked stale in their season opener against the Seattle Seahawks, but they came back with a vengeance and almost overtook the reigning Super Bowl champions the Saints in Week 2. The Niners actually looked better than the Saints for most of this Week 2 matchup, but a game-winning field goal by Garrett Hartley propelled the Saints over the 49ers in one of the most memorable games of the week.
The Saints-49ers game came down to the wire as the Saints led 22-14 going into the last five minutes of the fourth quarter. Frank Gore ran a 7-yard touchdown with just over a minute remaining in the game and Vernon Davis made a very close catch to the goal line for a 2-point conversion, tying the score 22-22. Drew Brees got the ball back with just seconds to go and Garrett Hartley kicked in a field goal that was partially blocked to lead the Saints over the Niners with a final score of 25-22.
