Texas alone has 13 National Park service sites. Each is unique and includes seashore, two recreation areas, a scenic untamed river, a presidential ranch, and a national preserve. Battlefields and a center for the arts can be visited along with forts and geological treasures. There is something for everyone with hiking, bird watching and camping.

Fritch, Texas offers rainbow-hued flint located in the only national monument in Texas, Alibates. The monument is only available with ranger-led guided tours. There are over 550 archeological sites preserved along with a multitude of wildlife.

Big Bend is a destination spot for all adventurers and sightseers. The majesty and scenic variety makes Big Bend an amazing travel destination. With all three ecological zones, the Chihuahuan Desert, with its stark beauty, the forested peaks of the Chisos Mountain and the amazing canyons of the Rio Grande, Big Bend offers something for every taste.


Big Thicket National Preserve offers a unique blend of plants and animals from the pine forest to the savannah to the flatland palmetto hardwoods. Woodpeckers, American swallow tailed Kite, paddlefish, speckled king snake, black buffalo fish, and the marbled salamander can be found in their natural habitat. Among those that call the Big Thicket National preserve home is four of the five known carnivorous plants found in North America. It has been a national Biosphere Reserve since 1981.

Geological marvels are found in the Guadalupe Mountains in Salt Flat, Texas. Tourist from around the world gathers to witness one of the finest examples of ancient marine fossil reef that was formed roughly 265 million years ago. Guadalupe Peak is found in the park and can boast as Texas' highest peak.

Lake Meredith in Fritch, Texas is a 10,000-acre lake surrounded by 50,00-acres recreation area. For those who love the water it doesn't get better than this. Lake Medieth lies on the windswept and dry plains of the Texas Panhandle. The lake supplies water to 11 cities and offers fishing, boating, sailing, scuba diving, waterskiing, and swimming. Along the shores hunting, horseback riding, hiking and camping is prolific.
