Overcome Your Fears To Achieve Success!
Is fear holding you back from succeeding in your home based business
? There are many people out there who would love to get their emppire up and running, but that little voice in their head gets in the way. Well, you know what I say, right? Overcome your fears to achieve success!
There are generally two types of fear that people suffer through. The first is the fear of failure. Nobody likes to be rejected. Nobody likes to be laughed at. Nobody like to be told no. Just ask any five year old whose parent won't give in to the crying and whining onslaught at Toy 'R' Us when junior doesn't get the new G.I. Joe doll he so desperately yearns for. So I can understand a little bit how it can be nerve wracking to pick up the phone and start prospecting the people in your sphere of influence.
What will they say? What will they think of me? Did I make the right choice by joining one of thosse things? Do you see where that fear is going to take you? Down the road of questioning yourself, and your confidence until you talk yourself into quitting!
What's the cure, you ask? I'll tell you! Learn to become comfortable and confident within yourself. Actively take part in an ongoing personal development regimine. Read books, listen to cd's, take courses and seminars. Think positively, and then apply the principles you learn. Become bullet proof to critisim. If your broke friends who work all the overtime they can get their hands on tell you that this won't work, why would you ever listen to them?? Obviously if that was the fast track to wealth, they'd be living in their dream home and not next door to you. Take action and just start contacting the people on your list. As the old saying goes, "Do the thing you fear the most, and the death of fear is certain"! What is the worst thing that can happen? I'll tell you...the worst that can happen is if they say no! Say no out loud right now. Come on, I said out loud!! Did it scare you? Did it make you change any major life decisions you've made? I'm being a bit sarcastic, but you get my drift.
The worst case scenario is someone says no. Big deal! They say no, you say next! The great thing about this whole thing is two fold. The more you hear the word no, the more you get used to it. I know some MLM business owners who actually go out and look for the no's. They set a goal to hear X amount of no's per day. During that search, guess what? There just so happens to be a yes or two sprinkled in. The other part is the one that you start to have fun with once you get rolling. When someone says to you, "I'm not going to do one of those things. They never work". That's when I now turn to that person and tell them, " I actually don't want you in my business my friend. I was just practicing on you"!
In most sales jobs, the sales force is taught at some point about the 80/20 rule. The 80/20 rule states that eighty percent of the folks you prospect will say no, and the other twenty percent will say yes. Let me clue you in to Network Marketing in the greater New York area. Here, it's more like 90/10, and that's perfectly ok with me! I'll take those numbers any day. If you know going in that you're going to get those no's, then you'll be fine. If you put it in comparison to Major League Baseball numbers, a guy who has a .300 batting average is making millions of dollars! Multi million dollar contracts for a guy that's going to fail 7 out of 10 times at the plate! Read that sentence again....fails seven out of ten times. Oh, and by the way...those stats are considered very successful! The only fear of failure you should have is the failure to take action.
The second type of fear, is the fear of succeeding. This one I understand too. If all of a sudden you start having massive success, and now many people are looking to you as the leader, it may shake you a bit. It's an awful lot of responsibility to take on, and with that maybe some pressure. Pressure to be the leader, to teach others how to reach your level of accomplishment, put on conference calls, speak live at events, the list goes on. I can see how it could be on the overwhelming side. This could put someone in a state of entrepenuerial paralysis. Ok, is that even a real ailment? Who knows, but there is a real cure. Again, it's personal development.
All of the things I mentioned earlier apply here as well, but so you can handle the responsibility of becoming the leader of your team. Grow you so you can grow your business. There are plenty of mentors out there. Chris Widener, John Maxwell, and Jack Canfield just to name a few. These great teachers want nothing more than for you to overcome your fears and achieve success.
In order to break this down to its simplest form, lets look at the acronym definition of fear. False Expectations Appearing Real. Your fears really come from the unrealistic expectations you place on yourself, which you could never meet. I know when I started my Home Based Business in New Jersey, I expected to sponsor everyone into my primary opportunity. This obviously never happened. Then when I started to get the no's, I began to expect those. What I realized was, that the only thing in the whole equation that I could control was me. So I did everything I could to make me a better Scott Carrell. Once that started happening, my confidence went up, and the fear vanished. Overcome your fears, and you will achieve success!
