Preparing For A Cold Winter
There are things one must do to prepare for winter
. There are many things that require time and attention before the first freeze comes along. If you take the time when it is still somewhat warm and dry you will be much better off and happier in the long run. This is all relative to where you live as well.
If you live somewhere where it snows then you are probably aware of the thing that must be done. If you live on a ranch this means lots of work and preparation for the snow season. This includes preparing the feed for all the livestock. Sometimes you need to round up the cattle so they can be fed. In other situations water troughs need heaters so the animals can get water.
Of course if you plan on spending any time outside then you need to find proper winter apparel. This includes winter boots/waterproof boots. Even if you do not plan on working out in the snow, good winter boots are a necessity. The most important thing you can do is to keep your feet warm. Once your feet get wet and cold there is no warming up your body. Even if you are just walking a short distance it will be well worth your time and money to buy good winter boots. Many brands of footwear have designed and constructed quality winter footwear. LaCrosse is an excellent brand that many people choose. Mens Winter Boots can be found almost anywhere and so can Womens Winter boots.
Another thing to consider is firewood. Many people prefer to heat their house with a more traditional method such as a wood burning stove. This means that you need to find fire wood, cut it up and stack it before the snow comes. Trust me, once the snow has already fallen it takes about 5 times as long, plus wet wood does not start very well.
If you have any sort of outdoor plumbing, especially for your campers, you need to drain everything and apply antifreeze in all drains. If this is forgotten you could have a dirty mess in the spring time. Your lawn sprinklers are another thing to winterize before your first freeze. There is a lot of work that goes into winter but don't let that scare you. It can be a fun and exciting time to spend sometime with your family. So take your family to the mountains and hit the slopes during your favorite time of year.
