As a service technician I am often asked why a preventative maintenance is important for a home air conditioning system
. My response is that it is part of your home that needs to be taken care of just like any other appliance or car that you own. For instance you typically do not operate your car without changing the oil every three thousand miles. You have to change the oil and perform maintenance on your vehicle to keep it running in order to make it last. Notice when you keep your oil changed, rotate the tires, clean it and perform regular maintenance the vehicle lasts and operates efficiently.
Keeping up with your home air conditioning system will operate the same way. Performing regular preventative maintenance on the system will keep it operating at its top performance. Part of your regular preventative maintenance involves changing the filter every three months with a pleated filter, cleaning your indoor and outdoor coils, and also cleaning the blower wheel. Just by keeping these items clean you will help to prevent possible breakdowns, because as you know all mechanical things breakdown at some point in time. But maintenance is the key element to making your air conditioner operate and last longer.
So if you think not cleaning your home air conditioning system is not needed then be ready to have frequent breakdowns throughout the hot summer months. A service technician knows when maintenance has been done and when it has not. Homes that have regular maintenance performed twice a year have less system breakdowns and homes that stay cooler in the summertime.
