4. Plan your weekly meals - spend time planning what you're going to be eating for your breakfast, lunch and dinner for the coming week and you'll find that your grocery bills are reduced, as you know exactly what you need to prepare your meals each day.

5. Start walking more - cars are known as being one of the major monthly outgoings, with often a substantial amount of money being spent on fuel.

Therefore, if you can reduce how much you actually use your car, the amount of fuel you use will be lowered, resulting in the amount of money you need to spend on fuel each.

6. Lower your mobile phone tariff - if you're on a monthly contract, can contact your mobile phone provider and ask if you can lower your tariff. Most providers will allow you, although some stipulations may be in place and it's important that you work out whether lowering your tariff will actually mean you are better off financially, as when you lower your tariff, it's likely that your inclusive texts and minutes will be reduced.

7. Compare your insurances - simple and straightforward to do, get to hand your policies for each of your insurances and head online. Log onto a comparison website for the insurance that you want to try and reduce and fill in your details.

Within a matter of minutes, you'll be given a list of insurers, their premium price and a link to their policy. All you have to do then is choose the cheapest premiums and compare policies - if the cheaper one is better than your current policy, cancel yours and take out this cheaper insurance.
