Small Business Websites Don't Have To Be Complicated
For a small business such as a legal firm or accounting company
, a complex and involved website is not that necessary. You don't need to worry about online stores, payment processors or having an inventory and shipping management system in place. But, there are things that you do need and one of the most important thing is having a site that looks good and makes your company look good as well. Unfortunately, most of the free and stock templates that are out there are not exactly what many people would consider high quality work, and using unattractive or poorly designed templates can devastate the reputation your company has online.
So, the first thing to consider when starting a website is having a look that is original, reflects your business and creates an atmosphere of legitimacy and trust that consumers can enjoy. Since you have an easier site than a merchandising one, you only need a few pages of content that contain good information. But, looks are the most important thing to work through before you do anything else, and you may find that paying for a good design is an investment worth making because of the long term benefits it can offer your company. Some good suggestions are that your site reflects you and your company, has a look that is in tune with the service you are providing, and most of all, that it looks like a million dollars even if you only paid a couple bucks.
Second to the looks your site has, the information it contains should be reviewed and evaluated. It should obviously be relevant and easy to follow, but you can also have too much information which can turn customers away easily. Each site is different in terms of what they are offering, so there is no single rule that applies to everyone, but if you look at some sites that have the same services you are offering, you can get a good idea of what works well and what will not. In fact, there is no better way to tailor your own site because you can alter the information you provide to match things you like in other sites.
The whole object of getting a website up for your business is to get customers, and information and how it is presented will be one of the deciding factors people will use to gauge whether or not your site is worth looking at. Once you have looked at other sites for ideas and hopefully took away some good ides for your own, then it is time to incorporate your knowledge into your site. Remember that your site should be simple, crisp and relevant, and so should the information you are providing.
The hard part is finding the right balance with how much information about your product and service you are going to give away. You want to give just enough that will entice customers to contact you, but at the same time, you want to try and avoid providing too much, otherwise they will not need your services.
