Some Important Tips For Choosing the Right Size Dog House

Choosing the right size of house for a family is usually a fairly simple task based on the number of rooms needed. The parents need a room, children need to have their own room, and any extra room is simply a luxury. Choosing the right size of house for your dog is a completely different matter and requires a bit more thought and planning. Here are just a few different tips for helping you choose the right size dog house for your dog.

Odds are the size of the doors of the house you buy for your family will never be an issue, due most all doors being roughly the same height and width on every house you encounter. The size of a door on your dog's house, however, is important for a few different reasons. The door needs to be big enough for your dog to come and go easily, but if you live in a climate with harsh winters and cold weather a smaller door will help your dog to remain as protected as possible from the elements. However, you don't want it to be so small that your dog constantly has to stoop to enter or exit.

The breed of your dog and the body type (especially if your dog is already fully grown) are factors to consider when choosing the length and width of your dog's house. If the breed of your dog is one that typically doesn't grow to be a particularly large size, then you obviously will not want to buy a large dog house. On the flip side, if you have a younger dog that normally grows to be a bigger dog because of the type of dog they are, then you will want to get them a dog house that leaves plenty of room to grow. If your dog is already fully grown, the decision is obviously easier but no less important. Buying your dog a house that is too large or too small can have lasting effects on his or her body, not to mention cause problems in certain climates. Make sure your dog has enough room inside the doghouse to go inside, turn around, and lay down.

Use your dog's current size as a start, but use estimates from the sizes of the average dog of his or her breed as a guide to help you choose the right size. You want your dog to be as comfortable in their new home as you are in yours. Buying the right size dog house will be of great benefit to your dog regardless of the time of year or the weather outside.
