Sony Ericsson W700i Review - Classic But Still Classy by:Jerry Smith

The Sony Ericsson W700i may not be the latest in the phone models available in the market today

, but it is nonetheless a reliable and stable phone, which is why many still speak highly of the qualities of this classic but still classy phone.

The Sony Ericsson W700i was one of the models that Sony Ericsson used to usher in their era of Walkman phones, closely resembling the W800. There are no major changes to the overall look and feel of the phone, indicative that in this case, Sony is wont to stick with what works at the moment, which isn't a bad decision at all.

A Closer Look at the Sony Ericsson W700i Features

The Sony Ericsson W700i is featuring a 2.0 megapixel internal camera with a 4x digital room, as well as a video recording capability. The screen resolution is 176 x 220 pixels, fairly decent, even in today's standards. The candy bar design is supplemented by a ergonomic but unique keypad design, which makes the phone standout more. This is an ideal phone for those who prefer a simpler mobile phone, but not without a few extras thrown in to make things a bit more interesting. The W700i's dimensions measure 100mm by 46mm by 20.5mm and weighs a lightweight 99 grams and features a battery that gives 400 hours of standby time and 9 hours of talk time. This is the perfect phone to slip into one's pocket, which will appeal to people who shy away from the bigger, heftier, and more complicated feature-laden mobile phones.

As with all Walkman phones, the main feature is the built in music player that gives high quality audio playback through one of Sony's signature platforms, incorporated into their mobile phone technology. The result is pretty good, and while many other members of the competition offer integrated audio playback, they are hard pressed to match the Walkman phone's capabilities. And with Megabass, bass is enhanced for better quality playback.

What of the songs? The W700i has a 34 megabyte internal phone memory, supplemented by a stock 256 megabyte Memory Stick PRO Duo? card. This is sufficient for about 60 or so tracks, but you can always expand the memory card to a whopping 4 gigabytes for added storage and enjoyment of your favourite songs. The is also a dedicated button to bring you straight to the music player, and the navigational joystick is easy to use and navigate with.

The user interface is easy to navigate and is easy on the eyes as well, another standard from Sony. They keys are very tactile and responsive to presses, making it ideal for those who like to send SMS messages. The phone also supports MMS messaging as well as data transfers through USB, infrared and Bluetooth, which is enhanced by Sony's signature QuickShare? system. A modem system can also be utilized through the Access NetFront? system, which will allow you to browse the internet through the mobile phone itself.

Sony Ericsson W700i is also triband, which means that it can be used with other networks around the globe. The W700i is compatible with GSM 900, GSM 1800 and GSM 1900 bands.

A Final Word about the Sony Ericsson W700i

All in all, the Sony Ericsson W700i is a solid and stable phone, and does justice to the whole Walkman series. However, this is not recommended for people looking for a feature laden phone, as the W700i's charm lies more with its classic appeal, coupled with its stability and reliability. It's a straightforward phone for no-nonsense people who prefer a simpler approach to mobile phone technology. While it may not have no significant difference from the W800, it still does good at what it does - which is basicall calling ang SMS functions, taking pictures, and playing music.
