Surfing For Beginners - Easy Steps To Get You Started

It's fun and very exciting to stand on top of a wave and ride Mother Nature's fury all the way into the beach

. Many watch surfing on TV or even live in person at the beach, but they may not know how to do it.

If you are wanting to learn to surf, then do not worry because it is not all that difficult. It may be hard to do some of the stunt you see in the competitions, but generally speaking; riding a wave to shore is not all that hard.

The first thing that any beginner will need is the right equipment. Unlike many of the other water sports, surfing requires very little equipment to get started. You will need to have a board of course, as well as something to wear.

The surfboard comes in many different sizes and shapes to choose from. Each design is made for a specific style of boarding and as a beginner; this should not matter too much. Simply pick out a general board from any local surf shop; make sure to tell them you are just starting out and they will help you pick out the right board.

With regards to clothing, most people are satisfied surfing in just bathing shorts. The only time that you may need neoprene, is if you are going to learn to surf in colder water and plan on being in it for a longer period of time. If you are more comfortable, then go ahead and get a simple wet suit for starting out as this will allow you to spend more time in the water without getting cold.

Unless you feel like losing your board should you fall off, make sure that you also get a leash for the board. Nothing will make the other boarders more upset then to have a lose board in the middle of a break which could cause injury or just plainly ruin the day.

Of course you will need some wax for the board to ensure that you have some form of traction on the board. Some of the newer boards may even come with traction pads on them, but in most cases you will have to make use of bees wax to help you stay on the board.

Add in a little bit of sun block as well as a surfing partner, and you ar set to begin to learn this sport. A surf partner increases the safety when out in the water, they can give you moral support and also make great conversation during the long paddle out to the breaks.

Simply head out to the line where the waves are breaking and face in towards the shore. Once there take some time to stretch and limber up while you are waiting for the wave. Start off small; while others are waiting for the big waves, use this time to grab some smaller ones until you get used to rising to your feet on the board.

Once you see a wave, start paddling into shore. Keep up with it but try not to get ahead of the crest. Once it begins to break, get to your feet and try to ride it in all the way. It will take some practice, but once you get used to standing up, then you can start looking for bigger waves and doing some stunts.
